Aging 100 Founder Accepted into the American Society on Aging's 2022-2023 ASA Rise Fellowship Program
The growth rate of the older adult population in the U.S. is rapidly diversifying in its racial and ethnic makeup, and the American Society on Aging (ASA) is committed to helping ensure that leaders of organizations serving older adults reflect this growing diversity.
In 2021, ASA launched ASA Rise, a 20-week intensive training and mentorship program, for BIPOC-identified professionals within the field of aging. The goal of the program is to improve well-being across an increasingly diverse aging population by creating a BIPOC leadership pool that improves policies and programs at the local, state and national levels. To accomplish this, the weekly virtual program will cover fundamental principles of advocacy, social justice and leadership development.
We are excited to share, our founder has been accepted into the 2022-2023 ASA Rise Fellowship program and joins 14 other amazing BIPOC leaders (read more about them here). This cohort will be referred to as “The Disruptors” because of their commitment to proactively disrupt and dismantle the structures at the core of the inequities that exists within the field of aging.
Along with disrupting structures, policies, practices, and behaviors that sustain unequal outcomes for older adults, fellows will complete a national project in collaboration with The National Council on Aging (NCOA). Research findings and outcomes of the project will be shared at On Aging 2023, the nation’s largest multidisciplinary conference on aging
We cannot wait to see what these Disruptors accomplish over the next few months!
ASA RISE is a launching pad for the next generation of aging leadership and is sponsored by The John A Hartford Foundation, the AARP Foundation, the Archstone Foundation, the RRF Foundation for Aging, CVS Health and Matz, Blancato & Associates.
